Daugters of a Tsar

Four Grand Duchesses.
Four Grand Duchesses.

In this beautiful photograph we see the four daughters of Tsar Nikolai II of Russia and his wife Alexandra starting at the back there is HIH Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna Romanovna (26/6/1899, Peterhof Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia), HIH Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanovna (18/6/1901, Peterborough Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia), HIH Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna Romanovna (15/11/1895, Alexander Palace, Tsarskoye Selo, Saint Petersburg, Russia) and finally sitting in front HIH Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna Romanovna (10/6/1897, Peterhof Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia).

Four beautiful young girls who sadly met a rather grim and violent end at Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg where along with some devoted servants and a doctor they were executed by firing squad the girls had sown diamonds into their corsets in the hopes of selling them if they escaped it was so it is said these diamonds that kept them alive longer making their end particularly terrifying watching while those around them were shot to death their beloved parents and brother the girls end was in my opinion the worst and most futile as women they held no power in Russia non of them would ever hope to rule as Russia had been under Salic law since the death of Ekaterina the great, cements in my mind that the deaths of the Romanov family was cold blooded murder pure and simple.

We will leave the tale of escapes and Anna Anderson for another day I think leave you with the immortal images of these four beautiful and intelligent young women who in Russia are now saints.
