Here we see a very future Emperor Alexander III of Russia and his wife Empress Maria Feodorovna (Princess Dagmar of Denmark), she was the daughter of King Christian IX of Denmark her sister was the consort to King Edward VII of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

Dagmar had been initially betrothed to Alexander’s older brother Nikolai but his death in April of 1865 at just twenty one he apparently upon his death bed wished that his betrothed would marry his brother Alexander, he had died of celebro-spinal meningitis which had been miss diagnosed as rheumatism.
